I am an aspiring broadcast journalist, and am currently attending The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. Being one of the top programs in the country, the Cronkite School has given me invaluable opportunities to learn and refine me journalistic skills and talents.

As a result, I am now confident that I have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in this field as I head into my final year. Although my ultimate goal is to be in front of the camera, I appreciate and understand the importance of the crucial but seldom acknowledged tasks of the production team. I think it has been fundamental to my success to have had gained an intimate and complete understanding of the newscast production, and thanks to the Cronkite School I now have a greater appreciation for all the different aspects of the industry.

Not only do I work well under pressure, but I also thrive off the energy and excitement of a bustling newsroom. I love the pride and sense of accomplishment I feel when my hard work culminates in a well-orchestrated product. I was involved with the Point Loma Nazarene University (San Diego, California) television and radio stations before transferring to ASU. I produced a weekly two hour-long show for the radio station. In addition to my radio show, I helped produce and direct student productions at the TV station.

I also had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through a series of internships. During the summer of 2009 I was an intern for KNXV-TV ABC 15 Sports. I gained valuable experience writing scripts and editing video for the sports newscast. In the fall of 2009 I went on to do an internship with FOX Sports Arizona. I got an inside look at running a sports channel in comparison to a 30-minute newscast. I refined my ability to find and tell stories for live broadcasts, learning both the process of preparing and creating a feature within a given show.
